Andy Woodward is an English former professional football player who played for Crewe Alexandra, Bury, Sheffield United, Scunthorpe United and  Halifax Town.

During his time at Crewe Alexander, Andy was the victim of sexual abuse by Barry Bennell. On November 16th 2016 Andrew had an interview with The Guardian where he spoke about the horrific abuse he suffered, by the 21st November it had been reported a futher six people had contacted the police.

Andrew Woodward hoped that is heartbreaking story would encourage others who suffered similar issues, and to raise awareness which is did. After his interview in November the police received over 1,000 referrals in a UK wide investigation, which covers 250 clubs, 5oo potential victims and around 200 suspects.

On December 5th 2016 Andrew Woodward, Steve Walters and Chris Unsworth and a few others formed The Offside Trust an organisation that supports victims of abuse and their families. Recently Andy has stepped down from being a director but remains a key ambassador and support of the trust.

Now the trust is lead by ex-footballer Steve Walters and former professional golfer Chris Unsworth, “the Trust aims to:

  • End abuse in sport, so kids can be kids: and
  • Support the healing journey of survivors of abuse”
