Blackpool

Blackpool is a sea side town in Lancashire, its on England’s northern coast line and lies on the Irish Sea. Blackpool rose to popularity in the 1840’s when the railroad was built there making it accessible from the more industrialised towns in the north west such as Huddersfield, Manchester and Preston, this brought with it some settlers that mean the towns population grew so much it became incorporated as a borough.

In 1881 Blackpool was booming with tourist and a promenade complete with piers, fortune tellers, donkey rides, many fish-and-chip shops and a theatre. By 1901 Blackpool became a very traditional seaside town and the place that many people would visit for their holidays. Blackpool infamous tower was built in 1894, it was inspired by the Eiffel tower and is 158 meters tall making it the 120th tallest free standing building in the world.

Blackpool is also home to Blackpool Illuminations is an annual light festival that was first founded in 1879 and switched on the September of that year, they run each year for 66 days, and run for 6 miles along the beaches sea front. They also host Blackpool air show that dates back to 1909, is a free annual that features the world famous RAF Red Arrows, a group of dare devil wing walkers, some of the most fabulous and famous pilots that put on a good display.
