Coronation Street

Coronation Street is a British soap opera, created by Granda TV, and has been shown on ITV since the 9th of December 1960. The programme centres on this street in Weatherfield, a fictional town based in Salford, the street was built in the early 1900’s and named in honour of the coronation of King Edward VII.

You will find Coronation Street on TV most nights and it typically aires between 7:30-8:00 pm and 8:30-9:00 pm, within six months of the show airing it became the most watched programme on British TV and is now a pretty significant part of British culture.

Coronation Street is now filmed in MediaCityUK, Manchester and is shown on ITV in all regions of the country, on the 17th of September it became the world’s longest running TV soap opera in production, with a live broadcast to mark the 60th anniversary. The soap covers various social issues including drug abuse, homelessness, gambling addition, identity theft and much more. Coronation Street has been nominated for 290 and won 98 of these.
