Liverpool is a city in the North West of England, Liverpool sits on the eastern side of the River Mersey, it became a city in 1880. The growth of a major port came with the expansion of the city around the industrial revolution. In 2007 the city celebrated its 800th year, and a few years earlier many areas in the city became world heritage sites. Being a port city that has meant the city of Liverpool is rich in culture and religions from places like Wales and Ireland.

The popularity of The Beatles and other bands from the Mersybeat era contributes to Liverpools popularity with tourist, its also home to two premier league football teams Liverpool FC and Everton FC, making parts of the city red or blue. The world famous Grand National horse race takes that takes place annually at Aintree Racecourse, that falls on the outskirts of the city. People who are born/living in the city are called Liverpudlians but its more common that they are referred to a Scouse or a Scouser.

There are a number of landmarks in the city with the waterfront and the docks being one of the most well known, Albert Dock houses a number of restaurants and bars, Tate Liverpool, The Beatles story and many more. The Town Hall is also the oldest building in the commercial district and cultural quarter, there is also West Tower, which is the tallest building in the city since its completion in 2008.
