On the 25th of September 2017 we were saddened by the news of the passing of Sylvia Butterfield or more professionally known as Liz Dawn, a lovely woman and Coronation Street legend.

Liz Dawn opens new labs at Wythenshawe Hospital  actress Elizabeth Dawn MBE better known as Liz Dawn, born Sylvia Butterfield on 8 November 1939 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, is an English actress, best known for her role as Vera Duckworth in the long running British soap opera, Coronation Street for Granada TV.

She played the role of Vera Duckworth from 1974 until 2008, her relationship with on screen husband Jack, played by Bill Tarmey, provided drama and humour on the cobbled for years and in 2001 the won the British Soap Award for best on screen couple. She has also received the Lifetime Achievement award in 2008 at the British Soap Awards and was also made MBE in the 2000 Queens Birthday Honours.

She was diagnosed with emphysema in 2004 and a few years later became a celebrity ambassador for the British Lung Foundation, she also worked hard to raise awareness for COPD and in the same year she spearheaded the campaign “Breath Easy Week” when members of the breath easy network raise awareness of the work The BLF do.
