Manchester Flower Tribute

Posted on by Hannah Waugh

Over the last few weeks we have witnesses St. Annes Square in Manchester become a public shrine to the 22 people who lost their lives and also the many who were injured in the Manchester terror attack. People travelled from across the world to pay their respects with thousands of flowers, toys, and messages of reflection that had been left as they stood in solidarity with the city.

A clean up of the area started on Friday night with any of the cuddly toys or football shirts that have been left at the site are going to be cleaned and gives to children’s charities, messages and cards left will be kept in Manchester Central Library archives and at the Manchester Museum for a historical record, some of the plant pots left are going to be replanted around the city and wilted flowers will be used for compost. Some of the other flowers have been pressed and preserved by Manchester’s Art Gallery Conservation Studios, it’s said a memorial book will be made and presented to the families of the 22 victims of this heartbreaking attack. There are plans to make a permanent memorial, but no details have yet been revealed.

If anybody wishes to pay tribute or reflect on this tragedy can do so by lighting a candle or signing the book of condolences in Manchester Cathedral or online.
